City Camp is a free day camp for children in the Olneyville section of Providence, and was developed in 1982. City Camp allows us to share the camp experience with children in a different part of the state who might not otherwise have access to summer camp programs.
Each day several of our ECC counselors leave the property with our City Camp Coordinator to drive into Olneyville where they meet up with three other dedicated City Camp staff members. Together they provide three two-week sessions for over 40 children, aged 6-12. Campers and staff travel throughout the state on a variety of field trips that include going to the beach, the zoo, state parks, bowling, and spending the day at ECC, to name a few.
The major funding for City Camp comes from our annual fundraiser and we are blessed with assistance from the Diocese of Rhode Island, Episcopal Charities, and other individual donations to help keep this program going. We are also grateful to the Episcopal churches in RI who open their doors to host City Camp on rainy days and help provide meals for City Camp.
